Why can computer protection packages never be 100% effective

Computer protection packages can never be 100% effective because:

  • Criminals and hackers are always looking for new ways to achieve their ends. The best computer protection companies have research units that are constantly testing new mechanisms and working on preventing new threats. However, so are the criminals.
  • Nowadays reacting to a new virus, worm, Trojan or other threat is very quick – usually within about 24 hours. However, the updated protection package has to be tested and distributed to all subscribed computers. This leaves a time lapse in which the malware can spread.
  • Many people do not renew their subscriptions when they run out.
  • People can turn off some or all of the protection because they get annoyed with the messages. If you are installing new software, your computer protection package needs to be told that the software is safe. Once you have done this, the messages will go away. Recommendation: Read all warning messages, if you deal with them, you could save yourself a lot of time, maybe money and certainly hassle.
  • Like most scams and fraud, criminal hackers depend on a human element. Most sites are trust-worthy, most files don't contain malware, and so on, so we let down our guard and let the malware and the criminal activity in.
