Can phishing affect me?

Yes it can. If your bank credentials are stolen using phishing your bank may or may not cover your losses. Most banks expect customers to take "sensible" precautions against fraud but generally assess incidents on a case by case basis.

Banks have reason to be worried about phishing. One International phishing gang that was broken in 2004 stole at least US$18 million from banking customers around the world.

Recently, insurance companies have expressed concern that criminal gangs may research their robberies using social networking sites and services such as Facebook and Twitter: phishing can be used to gain access to personal information.

Finally, phishing can be used against social networking users to steal identities for fraud.
